Community Perception Survey for South32 Worsley Alumina

Client

South32 Worsley Alumina (South32) operates a bauxite mining and alumina refining facility in Western Australia, playing a crucial role in the production of alumina for the global aluminium industry.

Challenge

South32 was seeking to measure the effectiveness of its social impact model and understand the current community perceptions about its operations. The company wanted to identify new strategies to engage with communities, develop purposeful community investment plans and establish a baseline to measure performance.

Solution

361 Degrees was tasked with conducting a Community Perception Survey of South32’s communities of influence. The objective was to understand the attitudes and perceptions of the local and regional community towards South32. Our team used a hybrid research approach, which included a quantitative survey and a qualitative engagement process with key stakeholders.

We then conducted a comprehensive analysis of the survey results and presented a report to South32. The report provided a baseline understanding of the current perceptions about South32’s credibility and reputation, the level of awareness and relevance of South32’s contribution to the communities it operates in, and the satisfaction and value of the community investment South32 makes in those communities.

Results

South32 conducted a Community Perception Survey to gather feedback and improve its operations. The survey highlighted areas for improvement, such as environmental impact and community investment, and demonstrated South32’s dedication to continuous improvement and engagement with stakeholders.
